On Friday, June 14, 2013, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History opened “Unlocking Life’s Code”, an exhibit that showcases the discovery of DNA and the Human Genome. Our family had the opportunity to attend a reception the night before the opening. We listened as Eric Green, the director of the NHGRI, shared the details of the project and how it came about. We also were completely blessed to hear Dr. Francis Collins, the director of the NIH, share the history of the discovery of DNA and the Human Genome Project. Dr. Collins was the director of the Human Genome Project and was a huge part of advancing this scientific breakthrough. We were so thankful for the amazing group of scientists, medical researchers, and academia that made the discovery and helped advance our understanding of the Human Genome and the mutations that have been discovered. Without their efforts, our family feels certain that Alexis, our daughter, would not be here today. We also feel completely blessed that the NIH and the Smithsonian have included Noah and Alexis’s story in this exhibit. We are grateful that God continues to use His story in our children’s lives to give hope to so many. It truly is a miracle.
